What is a spirit level?
A spirit level (also called a bubble level) is a tool that shows whether a surface is perfectly horizontal (level) or vertical (plumb). Traditional spirit levels use a liquid-filled tube with an air bubble that moves to show tilt. Our digital version uses your device sensors instead of liquid, but works on the same principle.
How does it work?
- Traditional levels use ethanol or similar liquid in glass tubes
- Air bubble moves to show tilt angle
- Centered bubble means the surface is level
- Our digital version replaces liquid with sensors
- Shows same information but with more precision
Types of Measurements
Level (Horizontal):
- Checks if surface is parallel to the ground
- Used for tables, shelves, and countertops
- Bubble centered = perfectly level
- Shows exact degree of tilt
Plumb (Vertical):
- Checks if surface is perpendicular to ground
- Used for walls, posts, and doors
- Bubble centered = perfectly vertical
- Measures any deviation from 90°
Three Ways to Check Level
1. Horizontal Bar:
- Like traditional spirit level
- Green bubble moves left/right
- Center position = level
- Shows side-to-side tilt
2. Vertical Bar:
- Shows plumb (vertical alignment)
- Green bubble moves up/down
- Center position = plumb
- Shows forward/backward tilt
3. Circular Level:
- Shows all angles at once
- Bubble moves in any direction
- Center = perfectly level
- Most precise readings
How to Use the Digital Level
Basic Steps:
- Place device flat on surface
- Watch bubbles settle
- Check both axes (X and Y)
- Read angle numbers for precision
When to Use a Spirit Level
Common Uses:
- Hanging pictures straight
- Installing shelves
- Checking furniture level
- Setting up appliances
- Mounting TVs
- Checking floor slopes
- Positioning cabinets
- Aligning tiles
